Decided that I would stick around for the clinic, and it turned out there were only two other people. Down to the point, I finally realized just how crazy Simon gets when you jump him on a course with fans and hogbacks and fun stuff. He goes unstoppable crazy. He was great for the warm-ups (although he did have quite a few funky jumps), but then on the first course, there was no stopping him. Pulling rein didn't work, circling barely worked... (now I know how to win the derby races - jump beforehand!). Finally did calm him down by trotting the course, but that was after the instructor had to plant himself in between the jump and Simon and then move at the last moment, and after we scared him into thinking we were actually going to jump the fence instead of stopping. So it ended up alright, albeit with more tack recommendations - a harsher bit, and of course the running martingale and flash. Apparently, I'm getting as scary as Jenny... except that her horse goes up and down - Simon goes flat out. And he was also (so I've heard) worse for Kate when she did the other clinic.
And I am so tired now....
